Is testosterone therapy used for women in menopause?

Is testosterone therapy used for women in menopause?

Yes, selectively. Testosterone may be considered for postmenopausal women with distressing low sexual desire after other causes are addressed (pain, dryness, sleep, mood, medications, relationship factors). It is not first-line for hot flashes. Dosing and monitoring require clinician oversight. HormoneFit discusses testosterone only when evidence and goals support a trial.

  • Main evidence use-case: hypoactive sexual desire in selected women
  • Not a routine treatment for vasomotor symptoms
  • Must rule out pain, GSM, sleep, and mood first
  • Monitoring for side effects (acne, hair growth, voice changes) matters
  • Compounded products vary in quality — regulated approaches preferred when available
