Can I stay on birth control through perimenopause?

Can I stay on birth control through perimenopause?

Often yes — many women need reliable contraception until menopause is confirmed. Combined hormonal contraception can also stabilize bleeding and vasomotor symptoms for eligible non-smoking women without major contraindications, but migraine with aura and cardiovascular risk may preclude estrogen contraception. Standard postmenopausal HRT doses do not prevent pregnancy. HormoneFit clarifies contraception vs HRT so you do not fall between regimens.

  • HRT ≠ contraception
  • Contraception may continue until 12 months without periods (age-dependent rules apply)
  • Migraine with aura limits estrogen contraceptives
  • LNG-IUS can help heavy bleeding and contraception

Transitioning off contraception

Age, bleeding pattern, and FSH (in selected cases) guide when contraception can stop. We plan the handoff to HRT or non-hormonal symptom care deliberately.
