Pelvic organ prolapse symptoms in midlife

Medically reviewed by Dr. Nathan Roth, MDCM, FRCSC, FACOG · Updated 2026-11-01

Can menopause worsen pelvic organ prolapse?

Pelvic organ prolapse is driven mainly by childbirth injury, connective tissue, and aging; menopause-related estrogen loss can worsen tissue support and GSM symptoms that accompany a bulge. Pelvic floor physiotherapy, pessaries, and surgical options exist. HormoneFit can recognize symptoms and coordinate gynecologic pathways; surgery is not a virtual-membership procedure.

  • Bulge, pressure, or incomplete emptying need exam
  • Vaginal estrogen may help tissue comfort, not “cure” prolapse alone
  • Pelvic floor PT is first-line for many mild–moderate cases
  • Urgent care if you cannot urinate

When to seek help

Any visible bulge, new incontinence, or obstructive voiding deserves clinical assessment. Bring obstetric history. Ask about pessary fitting and urogynecology referral when conservative care fails.
